Welcome to the Department of Veterinary Physiology & Pharmacology (VTPP) at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS). It is my pleasure to lead a department with a rich history of excellence in teaching, research, and service, guided by a dedicated team of faculty and staff. We are committed to providing an environment that nurtures and values different ideas, perspectives and skills. Our department has a long-standing reputation of excellence that strives to provide outstanding educational experiences in the classroom and laboratory. VTPP advances animal and human health through excellence in discovery, education, service, and leadership. Our department brings together strengths in numerous areas of biomedical sciences through foundational and translational research in a highly collaborative academic home.
The faculty of VTPP provide instruction across all four years of the DVM curriculum and lead graduate and undergraduate education in disciplines such as physiology, pharmacology, and toxicology. The department offers graduate training at the master’s and doctoral levels, and our faculty are highly integrated into the college’s biomedical sciences undergraduate program, a leader in training the next generation of health-related professionals.
Our research portfolio includes programs funded at the federal level as well as funding from foundations and industry partnerships in toxicology, cancer, regeneration, reproductive biology, cardiovascular science, and more. We are proud that our innovations in both research and education are recognized nationally and internationally and ultimately benefit both veterinary and human medicine.
Whether you are a prospective student, research partner, or simply exploring what we do, I invite you to learn more about our programs, people, and the exciting work happening in VTPP. We are proud of our contributions to veterinary and biomedical sciences and look forward to what the future holds.
Sincerely,

Cristine L. Heaps, PhD | Professor & Interim Department Head
